Qatar Marine Festival

Rencananya Qatar Marine Festival diselenggarakan pada akhir Januari yang lalu bersamaan dengan dibukanya Doha Capital of Arabian Culture 2010. Selanjutnya, acara ini sempat mengalami penundaan dan akhirnya Qatar Marine Festival akan diselenggarakan mulai 12-21 April 2010 ini.
Berikut ini jadwal acara yang disarikan dari website panita penyelenggara. di dalam program ini ada banyak acara yang ditampilkan, mulai dari kesenian music, pendidikan, dan juga lomba. Semuanya berkaitan dengan laut. Selain itu, ada juga pemutaran film animasi, dokumenter dan hiburan setiap harinya. Jadwal film bisa dilihat di bawah tulisan ini. Bisa dibilang semua acara dilaksakanan mulai sore hari, pukul 4 dan berakhir menjelang tengah malam.
Untuk tempat, acara ini dipusatkan di Cultural Village yang berlokasi di daerah west-bay, di tepi laut tidak jauh dari exhibition center. Peta Lokasi ada di bagian bawah tulisan ini.
Bossaball
Bossaball is a newly invented sport which combines football, volleyball, gymnastics and spectacular acrobatic moves. Bossaball shows will be conducted by highly skilled players from Brazil and Europe. The sport is played on a specially invented inflatable court with a trampoline in the middle which helps players make spectacular jumps and movements.
Highly skilled professional players are taking part in this year’s Qatar Marine Festival. The following will be showcasing the moves and tricks of Bossaball and organising participation of the public in between exhibitions!
Sailing Demonstration
Sailing demonstration will be organised to familiarise festival visitors with the various types of sailing boats and techniques.
Seafood Cooking Contest
A group of 18 local chefs cooking sea food dishes from around the world and traditional local dishes. All dishes will be cooked on-site and presented to a panel of judges. Semifinals on the 19th of April will consist of 6 chefs and the finals on the 20th of April will consist of the 3 top nominated.
Traditional Children's Games
Traditional Children’s Games gives an opportunity for local and foreign children to learn about cultural and traditional children games from Qatar and the region. Through demonstrations and trial sessions, youngsters are encouraged to participate in these traditional games to keep them alive and to enjoy them.
Movie Night by the Sea
An open air cinema is set up by the sea. The Films presented reflect the theme elements of the Qatar Marine Festival: Water, Sea and Pearl. Films include children's movies, animated pictures, documentaries and movies related to the sea.
The Sand Art and Sculpture event will consist of:
a) Sand Art and Sculpture Display - renowned international sand sculpture artists will be creating a variety of sand sculptures. The sculptures are displayed throughout the Festival and the artists will also conduct some clinics on sand sculpture creation.
b) Sand Art and Sculpture Contest - The local and international participants are creating their sculptures on-site during the Festival. The best sculptures will be displayed on the last day of the festival and the participants will be invited to explain their creation process, the choice of theme and the materials used.
Marine Life
The Marine Life consists of aquariums which will contain marine species found in the Qatar and in the Arabian Gulf. The Marine Life facility also includes petting pools where visitors can come into direct contact with some of the sea dwellers.
Music Nights
Famous local and regional Arabic bands will be performing traditional Arabic music, dances and songs.
Book Exhibition
The Book Exhibition includes local, regional and international books related to the marine theme. It also contains story reading for children on marine life, a multimedia library and an exciting childrens book project.
Handicrafts Exhibition and Stalls
Traditional kiosks are set up for craftsmen to exhibit their work and explain to the audience about their skills. The handicrafts are all Marine related and they are performed by local and international craftsmen.
Visual Arts Exhibition
The Visual Arts Exhibition focuses on the Qatar Marine Festival themes and messages through expressions of various forms of art such as painting, photography, sculpture, graphic design, sound and video interactive art and any other shape or form of artistic expression that showcases Qatar’s traditions and marine time and heritage. International and local artists have been invited to exhibit their work.
The Pearl: from Al Dasha to Al Qafal
A historical musical play created by a renown local director Abdulrahman Al Mannai tells the story of Qatar's legacy, the history of the people and their lives in pearl-diving times.
Fishing Competition
Local fishing lovers will compete in open sea fishing.
Carnival
The Carnival is a parade of ten decorated platforms along the Corniche. Each platform's creative set-up is related to the Festival’s themes: Water, Sea and Pearl.
